Acoustic Survey, Design & Testing for Sporting Events and Leisure Venues
There is a variety of work we undertake for sporting events, facilities and leisure venues. This can be as part of planning for one off events, design and construction of new facilities or dealing with complaint situations.
Sporting and leisure developments often sit at the interface between community use, commercial operation and residential amenity. Noise from events, spectators, plant and associated activity is frequently intermittent, variable and emotionally charged, which makes assessment and control more complex than for many other development types.
We provide clear, proportionate acoustic advice to support planning applications, operational management and complaint resolution. This includes noise impact assessment for new facilities and events, development of practical mitigation strategies, and post-completion testing to verify performance where required.
Our approach recognises the operational realities of sports venues including peak use, seasonal variation and community expectations, and focuses on solutions that are technically robust, defensible to regulators, and workable in practice.
Motorsport Events, Racetracks and Sporting Venues
Acoustic consultancy for motorsport, racetracks and sporting venues can vary enormously in its scope by the nature of these sectors. Previously we have undertaken work that included:
- Survey and design work for new facilities at existing racetracks.
- Complaint investigation and mitigation for motorsport circuits used for testing, race and track days.
- Acoustic consultancy and noise impact assessment for new sports facilities of all sizes from community and school facilities up to those used by teams competing in the top leagues. This can involve minimising noise impact on residents when applying for planning permission and also acoustic design so the spaces sound and feel as desired.
- Investigation and design of mitigation for sports facilities subject to complaints from nearby residents.
If you require any assistance with a sporting venue, event or motorsport facility, please do not hesitate to contact us and discuss how we can help.
Leisure Centre Acoustic Design
The acoustic design of a leisure centre is an important part of ensuring the facilities function as they should, whether a new build project, extension or an existing facility that needs improvement works.
Typically, areas of work cover:
- Noise impact assessment and control of fixed plant, deliveries, car park and operational sound at nearby dwellings
- Internal sound level in appropriate spaces
- Sound insulation between rooms or areas – some areas of leisure centres can generate surprisingly high sound levels
- Room acoustics and the control of reverberation. This can be especially important in large sports halls and changing facilities.
The acoustic performance criteria can be based on recognised guidance documents and standards or bespoke criteria formed in collaboration with the end client. Whatever the size and complexity of the project, we are happy to help ensure that the acoustic design enhances the environment.
Padel Courts and Racket Sports
Padel courts and similar racket sports can present particular acoustic challenges due to the impulsive nature of play, repetitive impact noise and extended hours of use. These facilities are often located close to residential areas, making them sensitive to planning requirements and with the potential for complaints from existing facilities.
We provide noise impact assessment, operational noise management advice and mitigation design for padel courts, including consideration of barriers and control of ancillary noise such as spectators, car parking and club house facilities.
