BREEAM Acoustic Consultancy
Practical acoustic advice to support BREEAM compliance without over-specification
We provide independent acoustic consultancy to support BREEAM assessments across a wide range of developments, including commercial, industrial, education, healthcare and mixed-use schemes.
Our role is to ensure that acoustic credits are addressed correctly, proportionately and in a buildable way, integrating BREEAM requirements with planning conditions, Building Regulations and the practical realities of construction.
BREEAM acoustics: clarity, compliance and coordination
BREEAM acoustic credits are often misunderstood or treated as a box-ticking exercise. In practice, they require early coordination, clear performance targets and realistic construction detailing.
We work with design teams to:
- interpret the relevant BREEAM criteria correctly,
- define appropriate acoustic performance standards,
- and ensure that proposed solutions are achievable on site and verifiable at completion.
Our approach avoids unnecessary cost or over-specification while maintaining full technical compliance.
BREEAM Acoustic Credits
We regularly provide input to support the following BREEAM credits (subject to scheme and version):
Hea 05 – Acoustic Performance
- Internal ambient noise level criteria
- Reverberation control in occupied spaces
- Sound insulation between rooms and uses
- Early review of layouts and construction build-ups
- Post-completion acoustic testing where required
Pol 05 – Reduction of Noise Pollution
- Assessment of noise from fixed plant and building services
- Specification of mitigation measures to protect nearby noise-sensitive receptors
Where appropriate, our advice aligns with recognised guidance such as BB93, HTM 08-01, BS 8233, and BS 4142 with propagation calculated using BS ISO 9613, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
Integration with the wider design process
BREEAM acoustics rarely sits in isolation. We coordinate closely with:
- architects,
- M&E engineers,
- planning consultants,
- and BREEAM assessors,
to ensure that acoustic requirements are understood early and embedded into the design, rather than addressed retrospectively.
This reduces risk at construction stage and avoids late-stage changes that can compromise programme or cost.
Independent, proportionate advice
We act independently of product manufacturers and suppliers, allowing us to focus on:
- Technically robust solutions,
- Proportionate performance targets,
- Designs that are practical to construct and test.
Our advice is always tailored to the project context rather than applied generically.
